A big part of being in a business like mine, is continuing education. There are many ways to accomplish this and it is my goal every year to attend at least two or three educational weekends away surrounded by other photographers. There is something special to be able to spend some time with other like minded professionals, to bounce ideas off each other, to hone our craft. A few weekends ago I had the pleasure of spending some time with a few fellow photographers from different parts of the country to work on our continuing education. A part of the weekend was dedicated to newborn photography, which I don't get to do much of now but hope to expand my business in that direction going forward..but we'll save that for another post. Part of the time was dedicated to working with a hair/makeup artist and photographing three beautiful women...but we'll save that for later, too. One other segment was working with high school seniors. You know, if you follow my blog at all, that high school seniors are the clients I photograph the most. I just love working with that age group...being able to help them see themselves the way we parents do. It is such a critical age and so our sessions are really more, then, well, just sessions. I work hard to make them comfortable, to make them laugh, to reassure them that this isn't going to kill them, that being in front of the camera for this very special, short time in their lives is worth it. I really believe that more important than anything else (well aside from a great portrait), having a senior tell me or his mom or her best friend that they had fun and enjoyed themselves during their session, is what matters most. It's not always easy but I believe that if we listen carefully, even to those tough to crack seniors, we can hear about their dreams, who they are, what they like and where they'd like to go. I believe those things should show through in their portraits.

While away with my photographer friends, we were fortunate to have 5 wonderful high school seniors to photograph. We had nice weather, well nice if you are from the north, and a bunch of fun. Here are just a few images from our day.

I can't believe I didn't share a few images from a wedding Lisa Adams (www.lisaadamsphoto.com) and I did last summer. We had the pleasure of photographing Laurel and Alex on their special day in Ohio. What a beautiful setting on the shores of Lake Erie. All day the weather was a bit ominous. We were thinking of "Plan B" all day and wondering how it was all going to work. But sure enough, just before the ceremony was due to start, the skies cleared, the rain stopped and we had a gorgeous evening for an outdoor lake side wedding. Laurel was beautiful and Alex dashing in their finery. The family was terrific and the wedding party was a lot of fun. I always enjoy photographing new venues and was so happy we had a chance to work there. Just beautiful

Is it Winter Yet?

You know during the spring and summer senior seasons, I often have to work around Mother Nature. Sometimes it will rain so hard that we can't do an outdoor session or the heat and humidity are too high to go on location (I mean who likes humidity frizz, am I right?). I never thought that She would best me even in the winter months. Here in Michigan, there has always been one thing you can be sure of... yes, that dreaded white stuff, the awful four letter word that starts with "s".. S.N.O.W. Except for this year. Of course I have a few clients who specifically waited to schedule their location sessions so that we could include some snow images. Here we are, the end of January and hardly a flake to be found! We've had a few days where the snow has been here, for all of an hour then melted away. We actually have a dusting on the ground out there today but it's going to melt before my schedule is free. Sigh... Mother Nature, you win again.

Well, to get me in the winter mood at least, I've been taking a look some images of Rob from his studio session. Rob is a Class of 2012 Senior Model for our studio. I photographed his brother (Class of 2011) and just love their family. Super nice guys, terrific parents and just a joy to work with all the way around. Rob came into the studio back in the fall and he is one of those "winter" clients. Can't wait to get out to the rink and finish up his session. In the meantime, here's a few of his studio hockey images.

Sweet Sweet Baby!

I always love when we have the opportunity to photograph little ones. Introducing baby Ean. Isn't he just too sweet? Ean, his Mommy, and Oma came into the studio last week for a session. I should probably mention that his Oma and I are cousins...so I think that makes us third cousins? This is my cousin's first grand baby and I was so happy to have a chance to meet and photograph him. This time goes by so fast and they change so quickly. Ean was a bit old for typical newborn session and he so didn't want to stay put. He is quite the character and makes just the sweetest baby noises. It's always so nice to get my fix when we have a baby in the studiod.

You may know that I have three beautiful daughters. My oldest is officially a senior for the second time! That's right, a college senior. Soon she will be graduating from Western Michigan University. I can't believe that her four years away from home are almost done. I clearly remember the emotions of the day she moved onto campus. I clearly remember my denial for the months leading up to that big day. I also remember how grateful I was for technology that enabled us to keep in touch so easily. I found that while I missed her like crazy, we still had our special chats, we could still share the highlights and the low times of our days and even though she wasn't physically here, we were still connected.

Over the last four years she's made Kzoo her second home and surrounded herself with another family. It was my pleasure to go to Kzoo last weekend and help her and her second family by photographing them for their upcoming senior show. If you happen to be in Kalamazoo anytime from February 6 through the 25th, stop by the studio in the Korman Center and check out their work. What a talented group of young women.

Meet Megan. Megan is a junior at LCN. She is on the Varsity tennis team, was a member of the swim team for two years and ran cross country for one. Megan is involved in NHS, and Mu Alpha Theta. (Yes, I have some very smart models!) Megan's favorite band is Parachute (um.. not knowing this one either. I definitely have to upgrade my music selection.) Megan likes to hang out with friends and play tennis. She has a miniature schnauzer named Jack. Megan as a very infectious laugh. Meet Garrett! Garret is a Junior at LCN and happens to be one of my neighbors. It's so strange to see him all grown up since I first met him four and a half years ago when we moved into this neighborhood. I think that would've made him like 12 and in seventh grade. Garrett follows Hockey, Baseball and is a big NASCAR fan. He has a crazy dog named Zoey who thinks she is an alarm clock and likes to wake Garrett up early, even on the weekends! Garret likes to hang out with his friends, likes the band Daughtry (so do I!!!!) Something funny about Garrett, he says he always try to have "swag" but it isn't always working for him. Meet Hunter. Hunter is a junior at LCN and found our studio through some mutual friends. She has been a pleasure to work with. Hunter is a member of the Varsity Dance team, she is on Student Council, and participates in Link Crew (this is a program that matches jrs. and srs. with incoming freshmen to ease the transition into highschool). Hunter also is a member of the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Thetha (Math club!)

Hunter's favorite band is Perry (again, another one I don't know...sigh, old age has definately set in). She dances in her spare time and has three dogs. She is a member of the LCN Varsity Soccer team and every year I make a point of heading over to the school to do a fun photo shoot for the team. It's kind of a tradition since both my older girls played for LCN. This year will be my 7th year meeting the team and having some fun. Vic not only plays for school but plays for Vardar Soccer as well. She's a member of NHS and Mu Alpha Theta.

Meet Tyler. Tyler is a junior at LCN and we met through mutual friends/clients. The Peltier's (both of whom I've done senior portraits for) referred Tyler to me and I'm so glad they did. Tyler is a great guy, he plays hockey on a travel team (you can see, has a bit of the hockey hair goin' on - love it!). Believe it or not, his favorite band isn't a band at all but a female artist, Carrie Underwood. In his spare time Tyler likes to tweet and he DJ's (well that sounds like fun!). Here's a little funny about Tyler you may not know, he likes to shop, especially for shoes and hats!

Meet Kayla - Beth Eggert Photography Class of 2013 Senior Model!

Introducing Kayla! I was so happy to meet Kayla last month when we got together for our meet and greet. Kayla and I met through her mom and my daughter Amanda. Both work at Sephora and I was thrilled when Kayla agreed to be a part of our team. Kayla attends Dakota High School and is involved in Cheer leading...well she will be again once her acl is healed (ouch!!) Kayla's favorite band is The Fray (Sweet! I know who they are and I love them too! I made it back to cool mode!) Kayla likes to hangout with friends and go shopping (ahhh, don't we all!) and she has one dog.

Meet Lauren - Beth Eggert Photography Class of 2013 Senior Model

I am pleased to introduce Lauren as one of our Class of 2013 Senior Models. Lauren attends Anchor Bay High School where she is a member of the Marching Band as well as National Honor Society. Lauren's favorite band is Big Time Rush (okay, again feeling old here since I don't know this band either!) and she likes to hang out with friends. Lauren has THE most adorable dog named Riley who is a labra-doodle. He is big, and sweet and very cuddly.Yes, I know this from personal experience since I've known Lauren since she was about 6! Three words to describe Lauren are caring, understanding and nice and I can attest to all three! Lauren is planning on attending Oakland after she graduates.

I've had the pleasure of photographing Lauren before...a few years ago we did a family session when her older brother Tony was a model. Lauren is a natural in front of the camera and it's hard for me to believe that she is all ready finishing up her Junior year in High School. Thanks Lauren, for being part of our team!

Introducing Nikki Clausen Class of 2013 Beth Eggert Photography Senior Model

Meet Nikki. Nikki attends L'Anse Creuse North High School. Nikki plays on the Varsity Soccer Team as well as playing for the Bay Area Soccer Club "Blaze" travel team. Nikki's favorite band is "Drake" (Okay, I am officially old since I have NO idea who Drake is... but I bet they're pretty darn cool!). Nikki has a pet guinea pig. One funny thing you may not know about Nikki is that she is a self-confessed shoe hoarder! Nikki plans on attending MSU after graduation and the three words that best describe her are Outgoing, Happy and Loud.

I've actually had the pleasure of photographing Nikki before. Last summer, her big brother David, was photographed by our studio and Nikki came along so we could capture a few sibling shots. It's great to have you on the team Nikki!

We are so excited to introduce our Class of 2013 Models. Each year, around this time, we gather together juniors from the local high schools to participate in our Model program. Our models will be in the studio and on location a few times during their senior year to help spread the word about our studio. In addition to extra camera time, our models receive all sorts of fun give aways, participate in all sorts of challenges and have a blast while promoting our studio. We love working with the juniors and helping to prepare them (and their parents) for all of the upcoming excitement of Senior Year. A horse is a horse of course of course...You remember the old song from the incredible Mr. Ed right? Oh boy, maybe I'm showing off my age! In any case, this incredible horse is Magic and my daughter is lucky enough to be taking lessons with Magic - provided by her lovely cousin Andrea. Gabi has been riding Magic off and on for a bit over a year now and it was my pleasure to be able to photograph Magic and Andrea together one lovely evening this past fall. I will be the first to admit that I don't know much about horses but this guy is really a character. Seems like every time we go to the barn, someone comments on Magic's over-abundance of personality. I've seen him beg for treats, drink out of a can, practically speak hello and entertain whomever is close. He is for sure one incredible horse.

We only had a few minutes for our session since we were losing light so quickly but Magic was a champ. Even though he wasn't crazy about my lights and he really didn't like my sof box, he still managed to strike a pose or two. I just the sweet sunset light.

Meet The J family! It's hard to believe that we managed to have an outdoor photo session in November in Michigan no less, but we did! We had an absolutely perfect day and it was my pleasure to meet these three characters. These three had the most beautiful eyes and eye lashes and were such fun to work with. Little Miss wasn't too sure she wanted her portraits taken but a bit of silliness won her over in the end and with two older brothers, silliness wasn't hard to come by! Meet Rena and Patrick!

I had such a good time photographing this beautiful couple on their special day last month. I've known Patrick's family for quite some time and was so happy when I was asked to help document this day. It turns out the bride and her family live super close to good friends of mine and I can't believe we hadn't met sometime in the past.Such a small world. We had the most perfect October weather for their day, beautiful blue sky, warm air with just a touch of fall to be felt. Rena was gorgeous in her wedding gown and Patrick was handsome in his dress blues. They are obviously madly in love and it showed all day.

Meet Peter!

I love the sweet summer evening light for photography session, especially for senior sessions. Peter, his mom and I met up at Lochmoor Club for some images on the course. Peter is an avid golfer so this location was perfect for him. The grounds are immaculate and we were there at just the right time for some beautiful lighting. Once we finished at the club we headed over to a nearby park that has some great hard scapes to work with. Not to mention the great blue pond which just happen to match the color of his eyes. Meet the Royster Family!
It was my pleasure to photograph this beautiful family late this summer. Such a beautiful family - and the kids were just a crack up. Okay, truth be told, our first session was a bit tricky. It was warm, a beautiful Saturday and the park was just over run with families enjoying the weather. We managed to get quite a few beautiful captures but we definitely needed to finish up the with another quick mini session and I am so glad we did. The second session was on a perfect evening, alot less crowded at the park and while we were racing the setting sun, we had a great time. The kids were so laid back and ready to participate. Wow, I love warm October weather and after the awful September we had here in Michigan, this month, so far, has been awesome! I was thrilled when we had such a gorgeous night to photograph this beautiful family. I've photographed them before but I was amazed at how much they have grown. Meet Sarah T. I've known Sarah since she was about 7. Our families ran in the same soccer circles, played on the same teams and generally spent 3 nights a week together for a long time! I always loved when Sarah played on the same team as my girls. She is such a crack up - just silly and goofy and someone you could always count on to crack a joke and lighten the mood. Imagine my surprise to find her all grown up! She has always been a beautiful girl, even with the requisite ponytail and soccer cleats but to have the chance to work with her outside of the field was really great. And let me tell you, the girl could work it! We had such a good time at her studio and her location session a few weeks ago...great weather and good fun. Meet Christian! Let just start this post by saying what a super nice young man Christian is. We had such a good time at his sessions, both outdoors and in the studio. Meet Stephanie!
Stephanie choose to have her location session on the dock on the bay and yes, I was singing the famous song in my head the whole time we were working there. Sometimes, I think I even sang outloud! Stephanie found this location and I loved it! It was just perfect when we got there, a bit overcast with lovely light. Stephanie is so cute and it was such a pleasure to photograph her. Meet Lucas!

Lucas and his mom are such good sports! I cannot begin to tell you how incredibly buggy the park was the day we went on location! I swear the mosquito's were as big as butterflies. None the less, we manged to capture some awesome images of Lucas at the park, in the field and in the studio. He has two very cute, energetic dogs as well and despite the families misgivings..they did really well for their portion of our photo shoot day! I think everyone was surprised when I started the fake sneezing which almost always makes dogs perk up their ears and look! So much fun. Meet Myles!

Myles is one interesting guy! I must say, it's been awhile since I've been around someone who knows so much about so many things. I was super impressed when you could tell his mom and I what types of planes were flying from the air base. I couldn't believe what a huge sports fan he is and he is a wonderful musician to book! I love when seniors bring in items that show how they are and was so happy when Myles brought his french horn and mylaphone (Sorry Myles, I probably spelled it wrong!). We had a great time in the studio then headed downtown to the big "D" for some shots by Comerica Park and by Hockeytown. For a guy that loves sports like Myles, this was the best location ever.

Meet Dylan!

Dylan came to the studio last week for his sessions - Dylan is a sibling session - I photographed his sister, Melissa a few years ago - Not only that but his mom and I went to high school together and reconnected on facebook. It was so nice to meet Dylan - he a super sweet guy and despite his determination to not enjoy himself, we ended up having a pretty good time. I think he also conned his mom into dinner when we finished as well! Dylan and his mom and I headed to Mt. Clemens for his session. It was windy but it didn't matter. I kept telling Dylan how glad I was he had such a nice short hair cut... didn't need to worry about the wind blown look! Meet Courtney!

Courtney and I met last week to do her outdoor session. It started out as one of the THE windiest days EVA! Poor Courtney! It felt like we were going to blow away into the next county! Meet Sophie!
Sophie is a Class of 2012 Senior Model. It has been my pleasure to photograph her a few times over the last year. We had just the most perfect weather for her location session. I was so happy we choose the location we did since it was such a good fit for her. Sophie was a good sport, too.. I had in the water, jumping, splashing and crackin' up. (Have I mentioned lately how much I love my job!). Meet Andrew and Julie (and Andrew and Emma)! Last week Lisa Adams and I had the opportunity to photograph Andrew and Julie at the Eastern Market in downtown Detroit. It was such a pleasure to see Julie and Andrew again, along with the kiddos, Andrew and Emma. Andrew (the son) is a Class of 2010 Beth Eggert Photography senior photography client! I was delighted when Julie called and wanted to book Lisa and I to photograph their upcoming March wedding. This family loves to hand out by the market and visit the shops and restaurants. Supino's is a family favorite and after our sessin they were heading there for dinner. While we were at the market, we had to head to Roma Cafe where this couple had their first romantic dinner. Lisa and I are super excited to work with this terrific family next year. Meet Marissa! Don't ya just love a girl that can rock the boots? I do! Marissa is a Class of 2012 Senior Model for my studio. It has been my pleasure to work with her over the last few months. Meet Alexandra! Alex came into the studio for her session a while ago. It was great to meet her and her mom and we had a wonderful time capturing her images. She's a nataural in front of the camera. I love her hair and it was big fun using the fan to give her hair some lift - of course I got a little carried away as I always do. We then headed out to The Octagon House for her location session. It's always a treat to work there. So many different little vingettes to photograph and we managed to get some images with the beautiful flowers. Meet Elizabeth! Last week was one of the few so far this year that was almost perfect everyday for outdoor sessions. Elizabeth came to the studio for yearbook and a few field images. Hi Ho, Hi Ho, it's off to the junkyard we go!

Here's Ethan! I have to say Ethan is another one of those seniors who I've known since he was just a little tyke,hanging around at the soccer fields during his big sisters games,while his dad coached. Our families have known each other for almost 12 year! It's fun to see what a terrific young man he has grown up to be. We recently vacationed with Ethan's family and we made a stop at our favorite junkyard while we were there! Gotta love a guy who isnt' afraid to tackle the unknown and there was alot of unknown. So this is how we spent a part of our Fourth of July weekend, traipsing through the waist high (or higher) weeds, watching the snakes slither away and blazing our own trail. We had the most perfect day - the sun was shining, a little breeze to keep it from being too hot (okay, it was windy but I'm not complaining!) a beautiful couple, a fun bridal party, wonderful families and just the best time.

The cermony as held at Divine Child in Dearborn followed by a reception at the historic Dearborn Inn. Both truly wonderful places to work at. And what girl wouldn't swoon at being wisked away from her wedding by a horse drawn carriage?

I cannot begin to say enough nice things about both families! Everyone was just super sweet and made the day perfect. A wedding day every girl dreams of.

Meet Emily!

It was my pleasure last week to photograph these beautiful siblings. Meet the Alexander's! We had such a good time at our session in the studio last week. Little Xavier was such a card. He as determined not to smile the entire session...even the mention of his girlfriend couldn't persuade him to show us his beautiful smile. I just love his impish grin in this shot. I had the pleasure of photographing this lovely family earlier this week. It was a gorgeous morning...sunshine, nice breeze off the lake, sweet family - perfect for a session....even with the fish flies. If you've ever been to Michigan on the east side of the state during June/July you know what I'm talking about. Fish Flies are pretty gross, harmless little 24 hour flying bugs that hang out by the water.. not just one or two but in swarms! Once we moved through the grass and kicked them all up, we were good to go! Poor Catherine is so not a fan of fish flies! Made me laugh to see her so squeamish. Do you remember Chardonnay and Brandon? I did their maternity session back in March.. Well, meet their beautiful sweet baby girl Brooklyn! It was such a pleasure to have all three in my studio today and I was super excited to meet Brooklyn! She is four weeks old this week and one of the strongest little babies I've ever photographed. She was holding her head high and didnt' really want to sleep - really all she wanted to do was look at the bright lights! Meet sweet baby Kayden! Isnt' she just the cutest little thing! It was such a pleasure to have her and her family at the studio this week for a session. I've known Kayden's daddy since he was four years old and it was super special for me to be able to photograph his little girl with him before he heads out to the base in Colorado.

And such a good baby! She doesn't much like being changed but was quite content after just a few minutes. I promised her mommy that I'd have them back to the studio in a few weeks to photograph Kayden again so that we can see her beautiful eyes and try for some awake baby images!

Meet the "C" clan. What a oh so very sweet family! I couldn't believe how well behaved and totally focused these three were during our session. Portraits in Patterson Park was such a wonderful experience. All the children and parents were just a joy to work with, including this little cutie! Feels Like Home
For six springs I spent every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday sitting in the bleachers at LCN watching a group of great girls work hard together as a team to accomplish great things. This is my first year not in the bleachers and it was bittersweet. In a way, it was a blessing - it's been such a wet and dreary spring! On the other hand, I've missed it so much! I was always amazed at the talent, the passion, the fitness and the camaraderie that this sport inspired in our young women. I was so happy when a couple of the girls got in touch and asked if I would please come do our annual team photo shoot! It's always so nice to be invited back! That has been my theme song all spring this year. This super sweet family came in over the weekend for a session and yes, of course, it was raining and cold. But we had a jolly time indoors despite the weather. Connor (aka Colton) and Nathan did such a great job and were such a joy to work with. Can't you just see the fun in their eyes! Well Mother Nature has not been kind to me this spring. I don't remember a spring so wet in recent history. I've been trying to Leah back to the studio for another mini session and we finally managed to find a time we were both free and it was warm and DRY enough to do the session outdoors. Love these images of her. She's great in front of the camera anyways but add in that sweet evening light and some greenery and I think it makes magic.

Finally, at long last a weekend filled with warm temperatures and sunshine. I was beginning to think we'd never have that here in Michigan! This weekend was the first Utica Antique Show for 2011. I love going to check out all the old goodies the vendors have there and this trip I found a few things for my favorite field! Love this garden trellis and have all kinds of ideas on how I'm going to use it this summer.
You may recognize my youngest dear daughter who was roped into a quick couple of images on Saturday - we called it an earlier Mother's Day Gift.

You know how you get an idea in your head and you can just see the end product in your minds eye - even if it isn't a photograph? Well that's what happened with me during this mini session with Dan. To say Dan was a bit reluctant to have senior pictures taken would be an understatment of huge proporations but since I'm his aunt and his mom put a bug in my ear AND since I just found out he has a band and plays killer drums, the poor boy didn't stand a chance. Yes, I made him pack up the whole set, drive it 35 miles to my favorite field, unload, set up and then play for me while I photographed him! I love this series of images of him. And you know what, I think he kind was diggin it too. Since he was here all ready I dragged him to the studio to get just one or two images for his mom. Ahhh Dan was a good sport! It's been awhile since I've said it so here goes. I LOVE MY JOB! Yes, I do especially when I have an opportunity to work with small little bundles of joy. It was my pleasure to photograph this little sweetie in the studio this week. Baby Brett is so cute and so cuddly that I wanted to just hold him. Is there anything better than fresh baby skin? I don't think so. Now it may look like Baby Brett did nothing but snooze during our session but the fact is, he was quite active and awake. Well it has been awhile since I've posted here. Life has been good but crazy - now that things are settling down for a bit I hope to get back to regular posts.

Last weekend I had the pleasure of photographing the sweetest couple. This is Chardonnay and Brandon and they are expecting a bundle of pink joy in just a few weeks! It was such a nice change to photograph a maternity after all of the family/children/seniors I've been shooting.

Chardonnay is such a good sport and willing to put up with just about anything! Goodness knows, when you look this good, you've GOT to have images to document it! Thanks for making the drive in Chardonnay and Brandon. I can't wait to meet your sweet little girl.

Well better late than never I suppose. We've been busy here at the studio - finishing up sessions and orders from 2010 and ringing in 2011. Our Class of 2012 Spokes models have all been into the studio! Such a great group of juniors - I'm so excited to be working with them.

The studio will be offering some special deals early this year. Be sure to check back here often to see what is coming up.

Class of 2011, we still have a few openings for late April - early May for senior portraits. By then, the weather should be decent and we can head back outdoors. Of course, we're always happy to provide studio photography as well.

Say hello to Olivia! Olivia was super excited about her fashion photo shoot and is such a sweet girl! I had so much fun with her. She made me laugh more than once during our session last night. First I surprised her because I knew her name before she walked in the door. She was amazed! Ahhh six year olds - gotta love 'em. She loved every chair/bench in the studio and we used just about all of them during her session. I think she spent some time the last week or so practicing her "serious" eyes because every now and then she would throw this totally smoldering eyes look my way. It made me crack up. Oh Holy Cuteness Batman! Sometimes in my business you meet clients that just make an impact. You know, when you look at the darling little face and you feel all warm and mushy inside. Well this little guy was one of those clients for me. Our session was originally supposed to be at the park but Mother Nature had other ideas. And what a happy accident it turned out to be. We ended up heading to the studio only to get here and find that the rain had passed and the sun was shining so we readjusted our plan again and used my favorite field to capture some of that lovely fall color. Little "I" was such a trooper and so much fun to photograph...so expressive and so happy. He earned his trip to McDonald's for dinner after our session! Heck the ride over alone would've been enough to earn his reward, plus he was as happy as happy can be even after almost an hour in the car. Here's Stephanie! Stephanie was a great sport on our downtown adventure. It was pretty warm for this time of year and I had her walking all over the place. Meet The Herron Family!
What a sweet family the Herron's are. We had such a good time on our Urban Family session last weekend. The weather was great, the sun was shining and despite my lateness, we were able to capture some really fun images. I blast wandering around downtown and it was a nice change from all of the park portraits I've been doing lately. What can I say...are they not just the cutest? I'm so glad we postponed our family session from last Saturday to today.. what a difference a week can make. It almost felt more like July than October this afternoon and despite J's disappointment at having to miss art class for pictures, and W's face plant into the sand right off mommy's lap, we managed to get a few images.

Ahh yes, slurpies earned all around ? And Mom, I have a magic quarter to give back to you! Studio you say? Why that looks like an outdoor session...well it is and it isn't. Poor Danny had to arrive early for his studio session so I could drag him into the field by the studio. Meet the Tigges family.Oh my what fun we had this evening! Who would've thought that the weather would be so perfect for a session! It was 70 and sunny and so very mild compared to the last few days. Such a pleasure to finally meet Carrie, Bret and their two boys. After many telephone tag days, we were able to get the session completed! I must say these little two guys were so fun to work with... okay, little balls of energy, true - but such a joy. And Libby the dog did great as well. She's so dignified and distracted. She was very interested in all other little dogs at the park.

Meet the Grosfield Family! We got together last night for a family session at Brandenburg Park in Chesterfield. What a sweet family! The boys were just the cutest and so well behaved. They thought Mom's antics were the funniest thing ever and kept giggling whenever she danced. We had to work fast since we were losing light so quickly but we managed to get quite a few keepers. Here's Tyler!
Tyler has been is a Class of 2011 Senior Model and has been in the studio before for a session. It's fun to see how much the kids change from their junior year to their almost senior year. I've known Tyler for about 9 years, gosh that is half his life! Talk about changing. I have fond memories from when his sister and my daughters played travel soccer together. One of my all time favorite images is one of Tyler and another "soccer" brother from many years ago. He's still a natural in front of the camera...

Despite Mother Nature, we managed to get Christopher's location session in! Yes, it whas hot and a bit muggy but not unbearable. He's such a natural in front of the camera and such a good sport putting up with all of our crazy antics. I almost missed getting a few shots in his favorite blue shirt...glad Mom reminded me, I think they may be my favorites of the day. I love shooting in my fields! And it's even better when I can shoot in my fields AND photograph a cool car - SA-WEET!

Wow ! It has been crazy busy here at the studio and we're having so much fun this summer mixing things up a bit. Today I had the pleasure of photographing such a beautiful group of young ladies. AnnMarie and her lovely daughter have traveled from Boston to visit with Grandma, Mary. I've had the opportunity to photograph generations before and as I've said before, I love these types of sessions. There is something just too sweet watching a grandma and her granddaughter, a mother and her daughter, sharing a moment. It makes me miss my parents all the more. Meet Chris! Chris and his mom came to the studio earlier this week for his session. We were supposed to be outdoors but once again, Mother Nature prevented us from getting to the park. It worked out just fine though, heading into the studio. Chris is a super nice guy and pretty easy to photograph. I'm really looking forward to our session on Thursday and hoping that the weather cooperates. Chris is quite the crack up and had me laughing during our session. Here's Richard! He may look familiar (see the blog header??) and that's because he is a Class of 2011 Model. This is the second time I've gotten him in front of the camera - and while it was too hot and threatening rain today to get out outdoor session in, we did manage to get the studio done...and then some. Richard is the first senior guy to bring his hockey gear to the studio so we took some time to try some different things. I had such a great time photographing Kate's senior pictures last week! Once again, Mother Nature was kind and we had a beautiful morning at the park. I haven't seen Kate since she was maybe 13 and she sure has grown into a beautiful young lady. We started our session at the back of the park while Mom took care of some business... I, of course, forgot to tell Sandy to head all the way to the back and she couldn't find us for awhile...lol... Eventually we caught up with each other and all was well. Kate is a natural in front of the camera and did a great job, even with our mile hike to just the right spot. We were able to capture some truly beautiful images. Here's Chase-man.. No that's not his real name but it's what I call him. Chase-man has been around the studio quite a bit the last year...well not the studio so much as it is he's been around me... See that's what happens when your Mom is friends with a photographer - you end up being in all kinds of photo-shoots. But that is a good thing. Poor Chase hasn't even had his "official" Senior Portrait Session yet and I've got a ton of great shots from an outing we did over the fourth of July weekend. Chase-man thought he was going on vacation...little did he know that I packed all my gear and had plans to put him to work while vacationing. I had the pleasure of photographing Steel last week. (Isn't that just the coolest name?) We were really lucky with the weather - it was warm but not terrible and aside from a few minutes of really awful bug activity - everything was great! Steel thought he was going to play the tough guy during our session and while he did for some shots, he totally didn't stand a chance against my knock knock jokes...okay, okay, I didn't break out the jokes, but I did have to act quite goofy to get him to loosen up. It was well worth sacrificing my dignity for the shot. And if you've ever had your portraits at my studio, you know exactly what I mean. Happy Birthday to TJ! Yesterday was a beautiful day for a birthday party, especially if you are 2! Little TJ had a great day surrounded by his friends and family and I was tickled to be a part of his day. He may look familiar - that's because just a few weeks ago TJ was here at the studio for his portrait session. Yep, he is still one cute little man! TJ's mom thought it would be fun for the kids, both young and old, to do the whole dress up silly thing. And it was F -U-N for sure. Not sure who enjoyed it more, the mommies or the kids! Well Senior Season 2011 is in full swing and we are booking sessions everyday! Last week we photographed Becka both outdoors and in studio. It was wicked hot but Becka was such a good sport, with multiple clothing changes, hair bands off, hair bands on, lip gloss applications and the audience of young boys watching! Overall we captured some terrific images and I'm really excited to share some with Becka and her family. Once we got inside the studio things were much cooler and no humidity! Meet the Boys!
I thought yesterday was going to be the day. The dreaded day when a one year old bested me. I don't think I have ever come up against such a joyful little runner as N! I just knew I was going to be in trouble. But one look at his sweet blue eyes and I was hooked! Both N and B have just the most killer eyes! B, the big brother, did everything just right..sat as I asked, stayed where I asked, was really really focused on helping me get some great shots during their session ( I later learned there was a vanilla shake in his future!). Now N on the other hand, saw all this open space and decided he needed to explore - and run - and explore and did I mention run - oh and he ran.....A LOT! Poor Emily was the wrangler and I think she needed a nap more than N did by the time we were finished. I think this first image kind of gives you the idea! It was a crazy wild session for sure. But I am so pleased to find that we have many sweet images of both boys and even of few of them together where you can actually see their faces! Meet the Liss Family! Oh my, what a session. Little Miss L couldn't quite decide if she wanted to have her photograph taken while I was there last weekend! Almost two year olds are funny - and they definately have a mind of their own. I just love her expression in this first image - it made me laugh out loud when I first saw it. Something about the way she is looking at me, maybe like I'm a few cards short a full deck! Once little miss L settled in, we were able to get some really darling shots. Meet the boys! M and C were just the cutest things. I love C's red hair, maybe because my own daughter is a red head of sorts. And M had the most beautiful blue eyes! While the day was incredibly warm, we still managed to get quite a few darling images of these little guys. They were such good sports wandering through the park - in 96 degree heat! You know it's hot out when the park is empty except for you and your clients. Honestly, there was one other couple in the park aside from us. It was a tiny bit eerie... Meet Emily! While she really isnt' a senior, we did her session very similar to one. Emily is an aspiring actress and not only is she a beautiful girl, she is very talented! I've seen her in action and have been super impressed. We were working on material for her portfolio as she makes her way into the crazy world of acting. I had a great time photographing Emily.
